(Politicizd) — Just days after the deaths of 13 American Service Members, President Biden took the traditional trip to Dover Air Force Base to greet the families of victims.
The victims, united by service in Afghanistan were killed in a suicide bombing at Kabul Airport on August 27th. However, according to some critics, the attack was largely preventable pondering a more effective and thoughtful withdrawal plan. Consequenlty, interactions with the President were largely mixed, with several families displaying clear resentment toward the Commander in-Chief.
In one instance, Mark Schmitz, father of fallen soldier, Jared Schmitz, said he contenplated even meeting the President, but ultimately decided he would. Still though, Schmitz said he was disappointed with the interaction, citing Biden’s overarching focus on his own greif for his son Beau. Beau Biden, who served in Araq, died from a Brain Tumor in 2015. Later, Schmitz reiterated his own grief, confronting Biden with a picture of his son Jared.
“Don’t you ever forget that name. Don’t you ever forget that face. Don’t you ever forget the names of the other 12…And take some time to learn their stories.’ ”

Biden, shocked by Schmitz’s remarks, responded simply, saying that he “did know their stories”.
Yet, this was just one encounter, supposedly less tense than others.
In another meeting, the family of the Rylee McCollum, recounted hesistantion to even meet the President.
To them and many others, he, President Biden, was at fault and entirely responsible for the loss of their son.
Nevertheless, the widowed Jiennah McCollum, approached the President, in a conversation that lasting just a few minutes. Later the family called the conversation pointless and at “total disregard to the loss of our Marine — our brother, son, husband and father.”
The Biden administration declined to officially comment suggesting that the interactions were personal and to kept private between the families and the President.
President Biden later addressed the meetings issuing his own sympathy for the families of the victims.
“We have some sense, like many of you do, what the families of these brave heroes are feeling today… You get this feeling like you’re being sucked into a black hole in the middle of your chest. There’s no way out. My heart aches for you.”

Yet, it wasn’t all bad for Biden, who garnered positive feedback for a supposed ‘small card‘, he carries in his jacket pocket. The card records the number of American Service Members who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan over the the most recent war.
According to Mark Schmitz, Biden pulled out the card to which Schmitz was pleasantly surprised. Schmitz later explained “At the end of it [the card],it had ‘Plus 13‘ ... I know it’s just a number, but it was a simple reflective thing that he looks at. I’ll give him kudos there.”
The ‘plus 13’ recgonizes the 13 American service members who had just passed away.
To the contrary, the McCollum family was still largely unimpressed, with Roice McCollum explaining that Biden is fully responsible and incompetent, regardless of his own sympathies.
“My dad and I did not want to speak to him. You cannot kneel on our flag and pretend you care about our troops. You can’t f--- up as bad as he did and say you’re sorry. This did not need to happen, and every life is on his hands. The thousands of Afghans who will suffer and be tortured is a direct result of his incompetence.”

The statement, largely political in nature, reflected a popular sentiment among the families— that the President failed to effectively guard the lives of their loved ones through a poorly planned withdrawal.
Schmitz explained, “Our son is now gone. Because of a direct decision or game plan — or lack thereof — that he put in place.”
As a result, many other families refused to greet the President or even accept any words of encouragement. Still though, to those who did, several were disappointed. Several recounted Biden’s continued focus on his own son, and his continued fascination with checking his watch. Other sources furthered those complaints with one saying “I’m not trying to insult the president, but it just didn’t seem that appropriate to spend that much time on his own son.”
Another source reportedly grew frustrated with Biden, saying his watch checking was completely inappropriate. In fact, one woman was so upset with the ‘watch checking’ she screamed at the President as she left the tarmac, yelling “I hope you burn in hell! That was my brother!’ ”
All in all, with an election midterm season just around the corner, it’s hard to imagine the Biden administration isn’t somewhat concerned with the current discontent across the country. Further stated, reflected in the grief of just 13 families, the President is facing his biggest crisis yet.
